WPHCC is His church and in Him we aim to grow, bring glory to God through our gathering, everyday worship, the gifting and equality of each individual, and the service of others as motivated by a Christ-like concern for all.

Our History

Then
Now
1938 Our story begins in 1938....
This tiny hall (left) was built to house West Pennant Hills first Sunday School, and later, the community church. A local woman, by the name of Mrs Hastings, became burdened at the number of children living in the West Pennant Hills Valley who were not receiving Christian training. With the help of three believers from Waitara Gospel Chapel, Mrs Hastings instigated a Sunday School on the veranda of her home in Eaton Road - not too far from the site of the present church. Beginning with just 12 children, the Sunday School became a feature of the community. However, in January 2003, this home was demolished and with some degree of sadness, Pastor Bruce took some last photos of the home. View these in our online Photo Album.
1943 Unprecedented growth demanded bigger facilities. So a decision was made to build a small hall on a block of land donated by Mrs Hastings. Despite a shortage of building materials, with God's help the small wooden fibro hall was opened.
1952 The Sunday School prospered and interest grew in forming a Christian fellowship. Twenty people turned up for the first service. But soon the small hall became crowded as the church membership continued to grow...
1973 Work began on a new church building on the present site as membership continued to grow.
1993 Further extensions were added, along with the addition of the Christian Education Centre.
2005 Early in 2005 we made the facility available to a local Korean Church who needed a place to worship. They have been worshipping here ever since. Still another extension was completed in front of the Education Centre, this large additional room provides space for Kids' Church classes and seminars. The new room was named "The Hastings Room" in honour of Mrs. Hastings who was so visionary and generous in the early days of this Community Church. The Korean Church now uses the Hastings Room for it's Sunday Services.
Today Our vision is to see the work continue and prosper under the direction of the Lord Jesus Christ.
